If one advances confidently in the direction of
his dreams, and endeavors to live the life, which
he has imagined, he will meet with success unexpected
in common hours. - Henry David Thoreau
All of us are athletes, and should be thinking of
ourselves as such. We are athletes in the longest
most important event of all – life. So conditioning
ourselves mentally and physically is a good idea,
don’t you think?
Training is a process, one that never ends, though
the conditioning that we choose to engage in, at
different times of our lives, changes (or should
change) dramatically.
With all of life’s challenges and joys, the
ups and downs, and the ever-changing status of being
human - maintaining a sense of ease and comfort can
be difficult. This is because we learn, from a very
early age, that life should be hard, that
our dreams and wishes only manifest if we struggle
for them, and that suffering is necessary. Well,
that’s a bunch of bull. Suffering is not necessary,
neither is difficulty or anxiety. Rough patches may
be inevitable, but suffering is not. Challenges are
good for us, they help us grow and learn and change,
but they never need be accompanied by anxiousness
or depression.
Look at setbacks as temporary or transition states,
not as defeats. When something goes differently from
what you thought you wanted, allow and accept
it instead of fighting it – the fight only
shines a light on the fact that you are unwilling
to accept what is, and what is, is all there is.
You can’t see the whole picture from where
you are, that setback or mishap or ‘wrong answer’ may
be just the thing that ultimately gets you closer
to where you want to be.
Peace, and Happy Trails to you,
Debbie
